The Mercedes-Benz SLK is a car produced by the German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz, belonging to the roadster segment with a folding metal roof. SLK stands for Sportlich (sporty), Leicht (light) and Kompakt (compact). At the end of 1996 the first generation came out, with chassis R170, which was replaced by the new model of 2004,
The first version derives, for mechanics and chassis, from the C-Class. On the market it was trying to fit into the space previously occupied by other German cars such as the Porsche Boxster and BMW Z3. another model, placed on the market when the old SLK series came out, with the name of Chrysler Crossfire.
During the first years of production there were only three versions available, all equipped with a 4-cylinder in-line engine.
At the time of the debut the price was around 60,000,000 lire.
